Two projects led by the IMB-CNM and the ICN2, awarded in the ‘Generació d’Idees’ competition

The RES-KIT project, “Genetic pen-site kit to detect antimicrobial resistance genes”, led by CSIC scientists at the Barcelona Microelectronics Institute (IMB-CNM), has been awarded with the second prize in the 2017 edition of ‘Generació d’Idees’. The first prize went to Nanoplastics, a project led by the Nanoscience research institute ICN2.

Optomechanical crystals to enable chaos-based secure data communications

Researchers from ICN2's Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures (P2N) Group published a study where the complex dynamics, including chaos, of optical nonlinearities are controlled by using optomechanical crystals and changing the parameters of the excitation laser. This discovery might allow the information to be coded by introducing chaos into the light carrying it.

BrainCom will develop a new generation of cortical implants for speech neural prostheses applications

BrainCom is a FET Proactive project, funded by the European Commission with 8.35M€ for the next 5 years. The kick-off meeting took place recently at the ICN2, one of the team leaders, and at the UAB university. The Microelectronics Institute of Barcelona (IMB-CNM) of the CSIC is one of the partners.
